— OPENING — main introductory section, below the hero —

There is a kind of knowing that most of us have glimpsed but rarely managed to hold onto: a felt sense of direction, of being genuinely yourself, moving through your life in a way that is true rather than simply busy. Not the clarity of having a plan — plans change. Something quieter and more durable than that.

If you are reading this, you may be at one of those moments when the path that was once obvious has become less so. Not lost — but less certain than you'd like. The life you've built is real and you've worked hard for it. And yet something is asking to be heard.

Becoming is a three-day self-directed retreat that creates the conditions for that something to speak — and for you to hear it clearly.

It does this in a way that is unlike most approaches to purpose or direction. It works with four ways of knowing — head, heart, body, and the quieter intelligence that is harder to name but that everyone who has sat still in a wild place has felt. And it works with the natural world not as backdrop or metaphor, but as a genuine source of wisdom: an intelligence that has been solving the fundamental problems of existence for longer than our species has been asking them.

Three days of sustained, unhurried attention to what is true — in yourself, and in the living world around you — is more than most of us give ourselves in a decade. You may be surprised by what that much attention makes possible.

— IS THIS FOR YOU? —

Is this for you?

You don't need a garden. You don't need to live in the countryside, or have any prior experience of meditation, nature practice, or anything of the kind.

You do need three days — or three long, unhurried sessions — a journal, and a genuine willingness to pay close attention to yourself and the world around you.

Becoming is for you if:

You are intelligent, capable, and have built something real — and you are aware, quietly or not so quietly, that something has shifted. The path that was clear is less so. You are at a threshold.

You are drawn to the natural world and sense it has something to offer you beyond recreation — but haven't yet found a way to access that relationship seriously.

You are tired of approaches to purpose and self-understanding that feel thin, mechanical, or designed for someone less complicated than you are.

You want something that respects your intelligence, works with the whole of you, and leaves you with a direction you actually trust — not a five-step plan, but a felt sense of what is true.

— WHAT THE RETREAT OFFERS —

What Becoming offers

By the end of these three days, you will have done something most people never quite manage: given yourself enough time, space, and honest attention to hear what you actually know.

You will have worked with your intellect, your emotions, your body, and your intuition — not as separate things to be balanced, but as four dimensions of a single intelligence that, brought together, gives you a far more reliable compass than any one of them alone.

You will have spent time in genuine relationship with the natural world: not observing it from a distance, but entering into a real conversation with it — and finding, as people reliably do, that it has a great deal to say.

And you will leave with something concrete: a direction, a set of commitments, a living garden or a pilgrimage route that continues to grow and teach you long after the three days are done.

The methods are serious, the science is real, and the experience — almost without exception — is one of quiet astonishment.

— THE SHAPE OF THE RETREAT —

The shape of the retreat

Becoming is a self-directed retreat: you work through it at your own pace, guided by a beautifully designed workbook. There are no live calls, no fixed schedule, no performance. The suggested structure below is a guide, not a timetable. You can spread it across three consecutive days or three long sessions over a week — what matters is the quality of attention, not the calendar.

Each day has a distinct theme, with morning and afternoon sessions, outdoor practices, and an evening ritual. The optional garden project and pilgrimage thread run through all three days and beyond them.

Day One · Arriving

Coming back to yourself, and to the living world.

The first day is about arrival — not at a destination, but at the present moment. Before you can hear anything clearly, you need to actually be here. Sessions on this day include an honest inventory of where you are, a first encounter with the four intelligences, and your first real conversation with a living organism. The evening practice draws on the wisdom of those — people and beings — who have known you most truly.

Day Two · Listening

Hearing what the world — and you — already know.

Day Two goes deeper. A compassionate look at what brought you to this threshold. A structured nature interview in which three living organisms become unexpected teachers. An afternoon with your gifts, your roles, and the version of your life that is pressing to get out. The evening practice opens the widest lens available — the view from deep time.

Day Three · Becoming

Letting what is true take shape — and carrying it forward.

The third day is for integration. Re-reading the journal with fresh eyes. A long walk carrying a real question. A letter from your future self. A map of your next chapter. Three commitments — not goals, but directions of travel — spoken in the presence of the living world. A closing ceremony that sends you back into your life carrying something new.

Dr Juno Quaintrell

Founder, Eden Rooted · PhD Anthropology & Musicology

I have spent almost two decades exploring what it really means for humans to live in genuine relationship with the Earth we co-evolved with. The journey has taken me around the world — into research, into wild places, into the knowledge held by nature-centred communities whose relationship with the living world has never been interrupted — asking what they know that we have lost, and whether it can be recovered.

Becoming draws directly on that research, and on my own experience of sitting at exactly the kind of threshold it is designed for: the point at which the path forward is no longer obvious, and something deeper needs to be consulted.

I have a PhD in anthropology and musicology, a background in teaching, lecturing, and the arts, and I am a permaculturalist, forager, and home herbalist. I work with depth, warmth, and complete commitment to the people who come to this work.

Eden Rooted is my answer to the question I have been asking for twenty years: how do we bring what nature-centred communities call our 'oldest knowledge' back into the everyday lives of people in industrialised societies who have lost touch with it?

I think this retreat is part of that answer. I hope it becomes part of yours.

Questions

Do I need a garden?

No. A window box, a pot on a balcony, or a nearby patch of public green space all work beautifully. The retreat is designed for city-dwellers as much as for those with outdoor space. The pilgrimage option is a complete alternative for anyone without any growing space at all.

Do I need to do it on consecutive days?

Consecutive days work best — there is a cumulative quality to the work that builds across the three days. But if your life makes that difficult, three long sessions spread across a week work well too. What matters is the quality of attention you bring, not the timetable.

I'm not someone who does meditation or nature practices. Is this still for me?

Yes. Becoming does not require any prior experience of meditation, nature practice, or anything else. It asks for genuine curiosity, a willingness to slow down, and the courage to pay honest attention to yourself. All three of those things you already have — or you wouldn't be here.

When will I receive the workbook?

If you are purchasing at the early bird price, you will receive your workbook by email as soon as it is released. You will be notified by email in advance of the launch date. If you purchase after launch, you will receive it within 24 hours.

Can I do this more than once?

Yes — and it tends to be richer the second time. The retreat is designed to meet you where you are, which changes. Many people find it genuinely different at different seasons of their life. Once purchased, it is yours permanently.
